University Update #1

Hehe, sorry for not updating my blog for so long!! XP
I did try a few times, but I couldn't load the "new post" page using USM's Wi-fi... Now I switched to blogspot's new interface, then only can load! ^.^ Thanks to blogspot!! :DD

So, how's everyone? =) Healthy?

I'm settling down well in my new life -- university life. Of course there are stressful stuffs like:
1. Tons of assignments and have to face different group members' personalities
2. Online quizzes with time bomb XD
3. Mid-term tests coming soon
4. The rocket speed of how the lecturers are teaching (1 lecture 2 chapters @.@)

BUT!!!

Hehe! I'm starting to really LOVE my university life~~~ ^.^

Let's update everyone about the activities that I've joined!

1. Pesta Hoki USM - Penang International

This is an international hockey competition organised fully by USM students, with the help from a few advisors, of course. This is already the 38th year that USM are organising this event! And this year, we received participations from Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Indonesia and others.

Don't be surprised! I'm not joining as a hockey player! I'm joining as the organising committee! XD

There are only a few Chinese joining, most of them are Indians and Malays. But I really enjoy the diversity!!! There are also some other ethnics from Sabah and Sarawak joining too. :D
I'm in the Technical of Games (TOG) department. Currently, my job is to process all those participation forms and also call up the teams which have problems with their forms. Haha, I'm so glad that I finally have the courage to talk with strangers! (When I was small, I don't even dare to talk face to face with my neighbour; I talked with my back facing her! I knew that it was rude, but I really couldn't turn my body and face her!)

Opening ceremony at Eastin Hotel. The table on the stage was the
place where the sponsors signed their
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

2. School of Management (SOM) Interaction Day 2011
USM has lots of short forms, at first I also couldn't adapt to it, but now okay already. XD
My Accounting degree is under SOM. In USM, the word "faculty" is replaced by "school", because USM doesn't want its students to be confined to their own course only. Students can take courses from other school as their minor.
Interaction Day is compulsory for all first year students, and it's basically an activity to welcome first years and also to let us know our seniors. We just played station games in groups, that's all.

My group -- Team Nine!

The game that left the most vivid impression was -- the passing message game. Sounds ordinary? But the organisers made a twist to the game!
We were required to chew a piece of biscuits (guys 2 pieces!) before passing our messages, and we cannot swallow the biscuit, have to keep it in our mouth. Imagine when you pass your message, the biscuit crumbs will keep spurting out! It was really funny watching it!!! Maybe you should try it at home! XD
I like the message: "LOVE IS NOT BLIND. IT SEES ALL, IT JUST DOESN'T MIND."
3. Bharanatyam Indian Dance
Yup, I signed up to learn this dance! Unbelievable, right? I also can't believe it myself! XD
At first when I started learning, my feet felt painful, because Indian dances have to stamp the feet so that the bell at the feet will ring. But now, I'm having trouble with memorising the steps.
Wish me luck! I don't want to give up halfway!
4. Flash Mob
Haha, I realise that I have develop an interest in dancing after coming to university! Or maybe I already have the interest, just no chance to get involved. XD Since learning dancing in university is free, how can I waste this opportunity, right? ;p

First time know about flash mob is through "Dream High". That time when I watched them, one whole group of people with different characters,  gathered one by one and danced to the music with the same dance steps, I was thinking, "Wow, how nice to be among a group like this! It's so lively! They're so yeng!"

Finally, I have this chance! Haha! Actually it's a flash mob organised by Pharmacy School for their seniors that were going to graduate. Although I'm not from Pharmacy School, but I 'keh po' and joined! XD
This is all the dancers! Again, I LOVE the diversity! There were students from
other countries -- Iran, Thailand, Japan, Korea and also other ethnics.

Well, I think that's all for today's update! Stay tuned for Update #2! ;)

Elderly couple

Walked to Tesco Extra which was situated near USM. By the way, wish all Malaysian a very Happy Malaysia Day!!!

When I was having lunch there, I saw a pair of elderly couple reading newspaper at a different table. They were actually dozing off rather than reading the newspaper. Somehow, looking at them made me feel sad. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I didn't cry, of course. They made me feel homesick... T.T

When watching them, I was thinking, the life after retirement must be really bored... They might be trying to wait for the hours to pass by... Then I thought about how my parents will become when they retire...

After I earned my own money, I will definitely bring my whole family to visit other countries!!! Paris, London, Taiwan, Japan, China, Switzerland, Australia, South Korea, Sabah & Sarawak (I know I said other countries, but Sabah & Sarawak are also "overseas" ma ;P), and many more!!!

DeeJay hopes that this wish can come true
as soon as possible!!!

Realisation

Just realised 2 things recently:

1. If you can't share your friend's sadness, be the one who makes them happy and forget about their sadness. Just be yourself, no need to mimic anyone when being with your friends. Your friends will like your true self more!

2. We don't have the right to be angry at our parents. Although we may not agree with their way of doing things or the way they control us, but we really don't have the right to be mad at them. We owe them too much and we can never pay back our debts in our lifetime. We spent their hard-earned money, they keep us weel-fed, they devoted most of their time to us, yet we still ask them to do this and that...etc... Our little thank-you is too miniscule compare to what they have done for us. What we can do is to not make life harder for them as it is now. Treat them well, even though it still not enough, but at least it's something, and they'll feel comforted a little. Sometimes when I see them trying to do something for me even though I've just treated them badly, I feel so regret for my bad attitude. :(

DeeJay appreciates her family and friends very much!!!
