WALL OF QUOTES

1.     About Conflicts:
  • Three different views on conflict:
Traditional view - conflict must be avoided as it indicates a problem within the group.
Human relations view - conflict is natural and inevitable in a group, but has potential to be a positive force in contributing to group's performance.
Interactionist view - conflict is not only a positive force in a group, but is also absolutely necessary for a group to perform effectively (I like this view the most!)

  •  Conflict is good, but how to manage conflict is important!
  •  Life must be MeSsY to be INTERESTING - therefore, we need to have conflict! (I love this quote from my lecturer!)

2.     About Teamwork:
  • Teamwork is different from group work! Both of them are very different! Group work is when you are given an assignment, and you elect a leader within your group, and divide task to each group members, then in the end, you combine all the parts to form the assignment. Teamwork is when you sit down with every group members and everyone contribute to each part, and everyone knows what each other is doing. This does not mean that you don't divide task. You can still divide task according to each member's specialties, such as in designing or writing essay. BUT, most importantly, everyone is clear about what each other is doing; unlike group work, everyone is basically just completing their own part, and only the person who combines the parts know what the others are doing.

3.     About Decisions:
  • Decisions are like hats, haircuts or tattoos. Some are like hats, which won't cause your life to diverge into different paths. Some are like haircuts, which might cause short-term change, but you can always repair through time. Some are like tattoos, which are permanent and will forever be etched in your life.
One person commented: Even small decisions will have compounding effect and bring to huge change in life course.
Another person commented back: On the other hand, even tattoo is no big deal. We still have the power to swerve how we want to change as long as we have the awareness.

These are not direct words, I'm putting my own words here based on my memory. But the discussion is really deep.
